Mark Halperin suspended from MSNBC for calling Pres a D---

In journalism, just like in politics, you are always one word away from trouble.

Time’s Mark Halperin learned that the hard way this past week when, during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he gave a vulgar description of President Obama’s performance at a news conference Wednesday. Halperin expected the word to be bleeped by the show’s censors.

Except it wasn’t.

Reaction was swift. MSNBC put Halperin, a senior political analyst, on indefinite leave. Halperin — quickly and smartly — issued a sweeping apology: “My remark was unacceptable, and I deeply regret it,” he said in a statement.

White House press secretary Jay Carney, himself a former reporter, didn’t pull any punches in his daily briefing Thursday, calling Halperin’s remarks “inappropriate” and noting that he had complained to MSNBC bigwigs. (Continues here)
