Want to know why Americans fret so much about government meddling in the private sector? Just consider Sen. John Kerry and Rep. Barney Frank's recent rantings over a bank's sponsorship of a golf tournament.
Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, blasted Northern Trust President Frederick Waddell for hosting the tournament after getting federal TARP funds. Frank demanded that the bank repay Washington for whatever was spent on the event.
Kerry went even further, introducing legislation banning conferences and entertainment at banks that get government funds. (Next, no doubt, he'll want to ban profits.)
Never mind the irony of congressional figures - infamous for their lack of fiscal discipline - lecturing about spending practices at private corporations.
