There's no hope for fairness: Between bailouts and stimulus, government is picking winners and loser
Charges of immorality came easy when they were directed toward the bankers who got us into the mess and needed taxpayer help. When Obama responded by setting limits on bonuses and pay, the public cheered.
But now the same heavy hand of government is dictating which homeowners and political pals will get help, and the cheering has stopped. Obama promises the undeserving will not benefit, but it takes a leap of faith to believe government can make those distinctions. The details will be devils.
Many smart people believe Washington must take an ever bigger role to stave off collapse. Perhaps they are right, but so far, each action has stoked fear and stock market routs. Even rumors of government actions rattle Wall Street.
Maybe these huge doses of government help are worse than the disease. If so, we'll have fairness alright.
We'll all sink. (see full story here)
