Abortion Law ‘Not the Highest Legislative Priority’ for Obama
“The Freedom of Choice Act is not the highest legislative priority,” Obama told reporters at a prime time news conference marking his 100th day in office. “I believe that women should have the right to choose. But I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on." That stance conflicts with a promise Obama made on the campaign trail (see video here). In July 2007, Obama told the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, "Well, the first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing I'd do."
