What scandal? Rangel is running again

It's been 40 years since Rep. Charles Rangel first won his Congressional seat. And he's not done with it yet.

Rangel formally announced his re-election campaign on Sunday. He made the announcement surrounded by a host of elected officials, including Gov. David Paterson.

Rangel was first elected to the House in 1970. He defeated Rep. Adam Clayton Powell Jr., who had been a pastor and civil rights leader.

Now Rangel is facing a challenge from Powell's son.

Rangel relinquished his chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee in March after being admonished by a congressional ethics panel for taking corporate trips to the Caribbean in violation of House rules.

His diminished clout on Capitol Hill helped draw a challenge from other candidates. (Source)
