No gun money for Reed

Senator Harry Reid’s votes for President Obama’s two Supreme Court nominees have cost him the support of the National Rifle Association.

Despite Mr. Reid’s longtime relationship with the powerful gun lobby, the group announced Friday it will not endorse him this year because he voted for Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, both of whom the N.R.A. deems a threat to “the future of the Second Amendment.”

“Her evasive testimony exacerbated grave concerns we had about her long-standing hostility towards the Second Amendment,” Chris W. Cox, the chairman of the N.R.A.’s political arm said, referring to Ms. Kagan. He noted that the group “strongly opposed her confirmation” and made clear that those votes would be used to score candidates. (Full story here)
