Loughner's aunt defends his parents

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz — The aunt of massacre suspect Jared Loughner said her family also is a victim and suffering through nearly unbearable psychological trauma as the result of his actions.

Mary Mitchell said Loughner, 22, is the only child of her brother, Randy, and his wife, Amy. She said the parents realize they have lost their son.

"It's a tragedy, it's horrible," Mitchell said, referring to shooting spree Saturday morning outside a Tucson supermarket. "Randy and Amy need to be respected. They are victims, also."

Mitchell said she is angry about the finger-pointing at the parents in wake of the shootings and the political rhetoric fueled by speculation about what might have triggered her nephew's actions.

"They adored their son. They did their best to raise their son, the best they could do," she said. "We need to quit talking about all the politics. It's disrespectful." (Full story here)

I don't believe you. I believe that the parents are also to blame for how their son turned out and missing the warning signs. I don't buy it. Hind sight...now it's too late

The aunt, Mary Mitchell said that she hadn't seen him since he was 7 years old and that Jared was a sweet boy. I'm sure he was at 7. Ms. Mitchell is defending her brother and his wife....15 long years have gone by since she's seen him!! Where has she been? How can she defend them if she never sees them. Their neighbors reported that Jared wasn't allowed out to play with the other neighborhood kids and that the parent's behavior of ignoring any one who tried to talk to them. Seems like bizarre behavior to me...Mary Mitchell hasn't convinced me that her brother and his wife were a normal loving family! Something is very wrong with those parents contributing to Jared's messed up life.

Well, although I agree with you that 15 years is a long time, I have learned not to judge until I get all the facts about his family. Look what the media did to Sarah Palin, the Tea Party and all Conservatives recently! When we rush to judge, more violence can be flamed. I am only exposing facts as they come my way.

Having said that, I do defend Palin & all those blamed for the tragedy because it was extremely biased and dangerous for the media and others to blame before facts came out. As we received more and more information on the alleged killer, we have learned that those who blamed were wrong and should be ashamed.
