UPDATE: Arizona Congresswoman dies in Tucson supermarket shooting

Congressional officials say Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has been shot in the head while meeting with constituents in her district in the area around Tucson.

These officials say as few as four and as many as a dozen people were wounded in the attack, including members of the Democratic congresswoman's staff. One official says one of the victims has died.

Reuters news agency, CNN and NPR News report the representative has died.

CNN is reporting a suspect has been taken into custody at the scene, a Tucson-area supermarket, and MSNBC reported people on the scene wrestled the shooter to the ground. The Arizona Republic in Phoenix reports four people are dead; NPR reports six may be dead. Congressional officials tell The Associated Press as many as 12 people were wounded.

Giffords is married to astronaut Mark Kelly. (Source)
